Across Australia, one in five women will experience domestic violence. One in five.
On average, one woman will die every eight days at the hands of her partner or former partner. One in eight.
Thankfully, there are organisations like Women’s Legal Service in Queensland (WLSQ) who provide free legal assistance and support for these vulnerable women and their children.
Last financial year, WLSQ helped 5,248 women impacted by domestic and family violence. Calls to the free WLSQ Helpline soared during the pandemic, with a team of volunteer solicitors answering 13,397 calls – an increase of 28 per cent over the previous financial year.
This equates to an average of 50 calls per day.
Sadly, due to lack of resources and rapidly increasing demand, 30 per cent of these calls to the Helpline go answered. The unfortunate reality is, there is no way to know when these women will have the courage or the opportunity to call again.
The Coffee Commune’s founder Phillip Di Bella wants to do something about it.
On May 21 2022, Phillip Di Bella and his 14-year-old daughter Arnika Di Bella will put on their dancing shoes and participate in Dancing CEOs, Brisbane’s most entertaining annual gala event for a cause.
Phillip and Arnika will take to the stage alongside other business leaders to raise much needed funds to support the prevention of domestic violence.
Dance rehearsals are already underway with Anna at Mad Dance House, and while they are nervous, Phillip and Arnika are excited to put on a great show at Brisbane City Hall as Team Father/Daughter Dynamo!
First dance rehearsal session with Anna from Mad Dance House.
By donating to Dancing CEOs, you aren’t just supporting Phillip Di Bella – you are helping another Queensland woman and her children to safety.
