Phillip Di Bella Welcomes $20,000 Small Business Tax Deduction Proposal
Phillip Di Bella, Owner and Managing Director of The Coffee Commune, has welcomed the announcement by Mr. Peter Dutton that the coalition will introduce a $20,000 tax deduction for small businesses should they win power in the upcoming federal election.
The proposal would allow small businesses with an annual turnover of less than $10 million to claim up to $20,000 per year on dining and entertainment expenses provided to clients, vendors, and employees.
Mr Dutton stated “We want other small businesses to spend more at their local cafes, clubs and pubs. And if they can take their employees to the venues and pay for a meal as part of a milestone sales event, or acknowledgement for their hard work then it is a win for both businesses. It will help retention and provide a reward to employees.”
This proposed tax policy aligns directly with one of the key federal priorities outlined in The Coffee Commune’s Advocacy Paper, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee, released in late 2024. The priority emphasises the importance of encouraging employers to retain staff through cost-lowering measures and well-being opportunities, ultimately leading to better employee engagement, retention, and overall workplace satisfaction.
“Small businesses are the backbone of the Australian economy, and this policy not only acknowledges their contributions but also provides tangible support for their growth and success,” said Mr. Di Bella. “It’s gratifying to see that our advocacy efforts are reflected in this proposal, which will have a significant positive impact on the hospitality industry and small business owners alike.”
